Why Ask Why?

Remember the times as a child that you would ask endless questions about why things are the way they are? It's good to have that healthy level of curiosity because it helps us learn about the world. Sometimes, however, we find ourselves in peculiar situations and feel compelled to ask questions such as:"Why me?" or, "Why aren't things going the way I want?" or "Why do I continue to do this or that?" Why? Why? Why?

Where are the answers to these questions? Will we ever arrive at a conclusion?

Well I say:"Why ask why?"

If you think about this question "why?" you'll realize that it has a tendency to keep you stuck. With a question such as "why me?" there is no satisfactory answer, and so you loop around and around, trapped in a holding pattern. People have this tendency to question why things are the way they are -- which may be good for philosophers -- but what if we want to create lasting change in our lives and get out of the rut?

Well, one way to get unstuck and begin moving is to change our question from "why?" to "what?": "What can I do right now to create change?" "What action can I take in this moment that moves me closer to my goal?" This is the exit door, so to speak, which allows us to get off the ride.

Start asking "what" instead of "why" and you will see a tremendous shift in your perception. Practicing this will quickly take you out of playing the role of the victim and will leave you empowered. "Why should I do it?" You might ask. Do it because you'll begin altering your behavior from being re-active to being pro-active, creating a life of choice where you will see results immediately.

P.S. Remember to celebrate your success after taking an action step. Acknowledging yourself is a valuable reward and will build trust between you and your subconscious mind, reinforcing the behavior you desire for your future.
