Attitude of Gratitude

Such an easy saying, attitude of gratitude, but how easy is it for us to be in that attitude when things aren‚t going as we expected?

Life is a growing experience and sometimes we may experience change as chaos. How can we stay happy as we face everyday issues? When we run into difficulties at work or home, how do we manage to grow and radiate? How do we flow with life in a state of joy among the pain of the world and challenges of daily life?

This largely depends on where we place our attention. We do have choice in the matter to focus on the positive or negative of any given situation, just like the interpretation of the glass of water being half-empty or half-full based upon our perception and attitude.

What can we do to shift our perception in the midst of a seemingly difficult situation? One way that I've found helpful is to get into a state of gratitude. The next time any emotionally charged incident occurs, stop for a moment and change your initial habitual reaction. Remember the larger picture of life; think of something more inspirational in your life that
makes you feel good. This could be:

  • Something/someone you feel grateful for
  • Something that generates wonder or awe
  • Something you appreciate the beauty of
  • Something that puts this incident in perspective

As you maintain your focus there, you begin attaching emotion to it, which allows for an expansion of awareness. Settling into this awareness of choice and thereby creating a new association, you will soon start forming a new reaction by becoming proactive in your life.

A great way to begin resonating in gratitude is by keeping a gratitude list. Each day list in a journal all the things that you are grateful for, by doing this you will maintain a foundation of gratitude that will keep you solid in those rocky times.

As magnificent beings, the truth remains the same; we have the power to develop and shift our attention from the petty to the greater universe, filled with awe-inspiring beauty and joy.
