Taking Time for Yourself
How many of you have been so busy during the day that
you've forgotten to eat? Ever missed breaktime 'cause
your so enthralled with a project? Have you ever said
this to yourself?, "I can hold it a little bit
longer."
The following ideas are some examples of taking time
for yourself during the day. It's sad to think that
we have to schedule time in for us just to take a
breather, but that is what I've found is a must for my
busy clients.
- Set up your calendar with specific times throughout
your day for breaks - make sure for every 8 hrs of work
you take two 15 min. breaks and 1 hr for lunch.
- Use visual cues if you have a day planner or
calendar, such as blue squigly lines, if you are using
an electronic planner, darken out these areas.
*Use auditory cues throughout the day to bring you back to center,
this may be your alarm on your
computer program or any type of clock alarm.
- Set up your environment with kinesthetic cues, those
that make you feel good or remind you of something
that is joyful or happy.
- Use Olfactory cues to anchor you to a calm and
relaxed state such as aromatherapy or therapeutic
grade oils. My favorites are http://www.herbalwear.com or https://www.youngliving.org/christelhughes.
- Make sure you have plenty of gustatory cues, healthy
snacks on hand to munch on during the day to keep your
energy up and running smoothly. My favorite is the
phi food at: http://christel.wholefoodfarmacy.com/
- During
your appointment with yourself do an exercise that brings you
back from the hurried, pressured,
overworked you to being in alignment with your true
nature. Consider
a breathing exercise where your outbreath is twice as long as your
inbreath, focus on creating a
vision of a nature scene with relaxed concentration
and sensory illicitation, or do some stretching
exercises.
No matter what your environment, you will
serve yourself and others much more efficiently if you are
well rested, rejuvenated and healthy.
